A physicist chasing memory in matter.

Mira Maric leads a group at the intersection of condensed-matter physics and quantum information, where the question is deceptively simple: can a material carry a trace of its own past?

Her lab combines low-temperature transport measurements with theory to look for hysteresis — a kind of physical memory — in topological materials. The work sits between two fields that rarely speak to each other, and that is exactly where she likes to be. Before joining ISTA in 2021, she held positions at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research and completed her PhD at ETH Zürich.

Maric is a recipient of an ERC Starting Grant (2023) and teaches the graduate course Quantum Matter I in the ISTA PhD program. She supervises PhD students and postdocs from six countries and is an advocate for open-access publishing and reproducible measurement pipelines.
